I know that i can assign a lookup grid to a field. this grid is initially defined by adding a grid to the main menu in the application, and only visible if the role has access to this menu.

What i would like: to use a grid for lookup, without also adding this grid to the menu. 

I already tried by adding a grid in the menu, setting access rights to the appropriate roles, then assigning this grid to the lookup icon, and then removing it from the main menu. As soon as i remove the grid from the menu, the lookup does not work anymore. 

Any options to achieve this?
